Lucknow: Due to dwindling mandate in Uttar Pradesh, the state party of Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) also lost its recognition. In the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections held in UP since 2012, RLD did not get even three percent of the total votes. The Central Election Commission has also withdrawn the national party status of Trinamool Congress, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Communist Party of India (CPI). At the same time, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was recognized as a national party. The national party recognition of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) from UP has been retained, while the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) is no longer a state party.

In the 2012 UP assembly elections, RLD won nine seats, but its vote share was only 2.33. In the 2017 assembly elections, RLD got only one seat and its vote share came down to 1.69. Talking about the Lok Sabha elections, not even a single MP of RLD won in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and its vote percentage was less than one i.e. 0.86. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the vote percentage of RLD has definitely increased (1.69). But, did not win even a single seat. After this, RLD definitely won eight seats in the 2022 Lok Sabha elections, but the vote percentage remained only 2.85.

Now only so many national parties in the country

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Congress, the CPM, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), the National People’s Party (NPP) and the Aam Aadmi Party are the only national parties in the country. The Election Commission has said that NCP will be recognized as state parties in Nagaland and TMC in Meghalaya on the basis of their performance in the recently concluded assembly elections. In an order issued on Monday, K.K. The state party status granted to Chandrasekhar Rao’s party BRS, PDA in Manipur, RSP in West Bengal and MPS in Mizoram was also cancelled.
